Bethel Baptist Church is the oldest Baptist church in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the longest continuing Baptist Church in The Caribbean. Prince Williams, Sambo Scriven, and Sharper Morris, formerly enslaved persons, came to The Bahamas by way of the United States, organized with others, and played a vital role in establishing the church. Bethel served as a safe house for many who escaped slavery and has the distinction of being officially recognized as being part of the Underground Railroad.
The ground-breaking ceremony of the first Meeting House of Bethel Baptist took place at its current site in 1848. The original building was destroyed by a hurricane and rebuilt in 1869, partly funded by a Parliamentary grant. Over the years the church has undergone extensive renovations and additions to accommodate the demands of the continuously growing membership.

Experience God’s Divine Presence

Because God has promised He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), we can be assured of His constant presence

Building Holy and Healthy Lives

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."

Guidance in a Misguided World

John 8:12b says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
